Caged Bird and the Sea Plot:

In the old seaside lighthouse, 19-year-old Lin Xiaoman has been “protected” by her grandmother all her life due to congenital photosensitivity—her world consists of the tower’s window, a faded fairy tale book, and the daily rising and falling sea: the “freedom” she dares not touch. Until Chen Ye, a wandering surfer, crashed his boat into the reef under the lighthouse. He climbed up with a broken oar, knocking open Xiaoman’s tightly closed door. He brought her salt-stained corals, told her stories of stars in the waves, and even secretly carried her to see the sea at 4 a.m. But Xiaoman’s skin broke out in a rash as soon as it touched the sea breeze. Chen Ye finally realized that the “freedom” he tried so hard to give was actually her death warrant. But Xiaoman held the surfboard rope and smiled: “I already knew the sea would hurt me, but I’m more afraid of never even tasting the pain.”
