When 25-year-old rookie screenwriter Su Xiao stumbles upon her dad Su Jianguo’s dusty drama script at the bottom of a suitcase, she finally understands what “a heartbeat hidden for half a lifetime” means—back then, Dad gave up his drama dream to care for his terminally ill wife (Su Xiao’s mom) and became a high school Chinese teacher for life. But when a production company targets the script to turn it into a cheesy romance drama, even forging Dad’s signature, Su Xiao snaps: “This isn’t my dad’s life!” While fighting the company, she tracks down Dad’s old drama club friends via the script and discovers that the “girl waiting for the opening bell forever” in the script was a regret Mom secretly kept for Dad.
