Lin Shen, a "ghost guardian" who sealed an ancient evil a thousand years ago, volunteered to sleep to suppress the source of hauntings. A millennium later, modern cities are plagued by anomalies—like a cheongsam-clad woman in an office building at midnight, a doll that moves on its own in a convenience store, and a faceless passenger on the last subway train. These hauntings are linked to unresolved obsessions from a thousand years ago. Accidentally awakened, Lin Shen struggles with modern technology: he's chased by security for pasting talismans on surveillance cameras, and his exorcism chants are filmed by the sarcastic female reporter Su Xiao as "paranormal material." Su Xiao believes "all hauntings are man-made."
