Su Wan, who runs the "Half-Moon Sweet" dessert shop in the old alley, has waited for Gu Zhao for three years, clinging to his promise: "I'll marry you on the full moon night." Every evening, she boils osmanthus taro balls, ignoring the neighbors' jokes about her being foolish. On the Mid-Autumn night, when the moon is brightest, Gu Zhao finally appears—emaciated, with a blood-stained bandage on his wrist, clutching the jade hairpin that was their token of love. He says, trembling: "Wanwan, I didn't forget, but someone is after something I've searched for three years." Just then, a group of men in black rush in from the alley, asking about a man in a dark blue coat. Su Wan pushes Gu Zhao into the kitchen to cover for him. What she doesn't know is that Gu Zhao hides a medical report behind his back—terminal gastric cancer—and the "something" he risked everything for is a rare medicine that can cure her congenital heart disease.
