Yu Wanniang, a vulnerable widow, loses her husband early and faces a desperate situation—her young son Xiao An suffers from a life-threatening illness, and the doctor says only a millennium-old fox elixir can save him. Desperate, she searches the mountains and finds Chen Tianxiang, the legendary cold and arrogant fox scholar. She grits her teeth and offers her last silver hairpin: "I'll trade ten years of my lifespan for your fox elixir." But Chen doesn't take the hairpin; instead, he takes her back to his bamboo house to make medicine, and secretly mends her torn clothes, warms porridge for her late nights, and even stands up for her when villagers bully her. She thinks this is an "added service" for the deal—until one rainy night, Chen holds her soaking wet body and whispers: "Little Atao, I've been waiting for you for three hundred years." It turns out that five hundred years ago, she was the orphan who saved the injured little fox (Chen Tianxiang), and now he has cultivated into a human to protect her again. But when she gets the elixir, she learns that lending it will cost Chen his millennium cultivation—even leading to his annihilation.
