Caged Bird Longs for the Old Grove
Caged Bird Longs for the Old Grove Plot:
Top actress Lin Wan, trapped by fame and fortune, stumbles upon an old letter from her high school crush Xu Chuan while hospitalized after a stage accident—it reads, "When ginkgo leaves cover the old ancestral hall, I'll wait for you to come back and fix the fence together." She sneaks back to the ancient village in southern Anhui, only to find Xu Chuan working as a substitute teacher for left-behind children, and the old ancestral hall on the verge of being demolished for a homestay. Lin Wan tries to help Xu Chuan save the hall, but her secret trip is exposed by paparazzi, leading to accusations of "exploiting rural sentiment for publicity." Her agency orders her to return to Beijing immediately. Standing under the old ginkgo tree, watching Xu Chuan teach Tang poetry to the kids, she wonders: Is "freedom" being under the spotlight, or staying with someone to guard the golden leaves?
