Wangcai 1980 Plot:

12-year-old Lin Xiaoman never expected her five-year-old old yellow dog Wangcai to talk—it said her father, missing for three years, wasn’t gone, and had hidden a letter in the beam of the old house. From hiding under the bed in doubt to clutching Wangcai’s collar and rummaging through the attic, Xiaoman found fruit candy wrappers in her father’s army coat, a wooden board with her name carved on the bicycle’s back seat, and realized Wangcai’s copper bell was made by her father when he picked it up. As the three-day deadline neared, when Xiaoman tremblingly climbed the beam and touched the crumpled letter, a familiar footstep suddenly came from outside... The secret Wangcai had kept for three years turned out to be her father’s unsaid “Wait for me to come home.”
