The Rogue's Ascension Plot:

Chen Aguo, a street rogue who makes a living watching over a food stall, is a master of smooth talk and avoiding trouble—his only soft spot is Xiao Tang, his childhood sweetheart who sells sugar water next door. One day, he stands up for an elderly man surrounded by thugs; the man shoves a tattered gourd into his hands and vanishes. From then on, Aguo can see the “auras” around people: a chilling black vengeful spirit clinging to Xiao Tang, an oppressive “wealth aura” making the stall owner cough blood, even the fierce urban management officer has a “merit light” swirling around him. Even more terrifying: every night, a cold male voice drifts from the gourd: “Tomorrow at midnight, go to the suburban mass grave and take the blood-red manjusaka—otherwise, Xiao Tang won’t live past the third day of the lunar month.” Trembling but resolute, Aguo grabs his dagger (hidden for half a year) and snarls: “I’ve fought the street bully A Biao, why fear a damn flower?” Little does he know, this flower is part of a millennium-old bet between immortals and demons—and he, the “most unruly” rogue, is the “key piece” that can upend the entire game…
