I Warned Her That Day Plot:

Xu Nian, a solo white-collar worker, has a new neighbor Lin Xiaoman who hoards low-quality electrical appliances. Xu warns her repeatedly, “These things are fire hazards,” but Lin rolls her eyes: “Mind your own business.” Until late at night, the smell of burning seeps under the door—Xu smashes Lin’s door, only to find thick smoke inside. She’s just pulling out her phone to call the police when a “boom” shakes the corridor, and flames devour half the hallway. Xu sits on the stairs, trembling, until firefighters find Lin’s ledger in the ruins: Lin was refurbishing appliances to sell, saving up for her mother’s imported dialysis fluid for uremia. Now Xu waits outside the ICU every day, staring at Lin hooked to tubes, her finger brushing Lin’s unfinished note: “Tomorrow I’ll listen to the neighbor sister—throw away the old electric pot…”
