In 1980, as the spring of Reform and Opening-Up just swept across China, Lin Weidong, a young technician at a state-owned machine tool factory, refused to be trapped in the rigid planned system. He and his girlfriend Su Xiaolei came up with the bold idea of running an individual clothing business. This move was firmly suppressed by the old-fashioned director who stuck to outdated rules and drew criticism from relatives and neighbors. Torn between the bittersweet test of love and the impetus of the new era, Lin Weidong gathered a group of enterprising young colleagues, broke through the barriers of secular concepts, and built a small life on the 1980s' streets. However, he was suddenly involved in a technical plagiarism dispute, leaving his future full of suspense.
