Former voice actress Lin Xiaoman, who lost her hearing, hides in an attic deep in an old alley to shut out the world, only to be frequently "disturbed" by her new neighbor, sound engineer Lu Zhao — he uses an old phonograph to amplify the vibrations of ants crawling at the base of the wall, collects the "buzz" of sunlight on the clothesline in glass jars, and even turns the sway of sycamore leaves into touchable "sound waves".
