Dust on the Heart Plot:

In a 1980s small town, Lin Xiaoman, a temporary worker at a textile factory, is fired for taking the blame for her friend. With her mother seriously ill, she scrapes by selling hand-woven socks at a stall—only to accidentally get tangled in Gu Chenzhou's investigation into his uncle's death. Gu, a high-ranking official's son, mistakenly believes Xiaoman is the "murderer's daughter" and deliberately gets close to test her. But he's gradually moved by her tenacity and kindness: Xiaoman secretly helps him dig for clues, uses her sock-selling money to mend his torn military uniform, and even shields him from a mob. When Gu uncovers the truth and realizes Xiaoman was wronged, he's ready to confess—only for Xiaoman to misinterpret his actions as "using" her and decide to leave for Shenzhen to start over. Gu chases her to the train station, pulling out a red scarf he exchanged with a month's food stamps: "I wasn't investigating the truth—I was chasing the dust in my heart. Turns out, I've already put you there." Later, Xiaoman rises to become a clothing entrepreneur, and the two go from "testing each other" to "running toward each other," writing the sweetest retro love story amid the tides of the era.
