Su Xiao, an amnesiac illustrator, has been drawing the same painting for three years: a woman in a dark green cheongsam standing at an old alley. Her life changes when she meets Gu Shen, an antique shop owner—who not only has an old photo of the cheongsam woman but also says, "I'm waiting for someone you can only 'see' with deep love." Su Xiao discovers that the sugar-fried chestnut stall and bluestone paths in her paintings perfectly match Gu Shen's childhood memories. Even more bizarre: she starts having recurring Republic of China-era dreams—she’s A Ruan, a young opera apprentice, and Gu Shen is Gu Zhao, a returning overseas student. Just as Su Xiao uncovers the past-life secret hidden in her art, Gu Shen collapses from a chronic illness.
