Dear Child, Don’t Cry Plot:

Lin Xiaoman, who runs an old bookstore in a small town, has kept a “ritual” for three years—placing a fruit candy on her windowsill every day, the same one her daughter Xiaotang was clutching tightly when she went missing. One evening, a wounded little boy named Xiaoan huddles outside the store crying, and the words “Xiaotang” on his half-eaten candy pierces her heart—it’s the custom wrapper she made exclusively for her daughter. When pressed, Xiaoan says the candy was given by a “sister in a red dress”, the same person witnesses described as “pulling Xiaotang away” back then. When Lin tracks down this “sister”, she discovers she’s a 16-year-old girl who was abducted while protecting Xiaotang, and Xiaoan is the “next child to save” the girl pushed out with her last breath…
