Back to 1989 Plot:

Lin Xiaoman, a corporate slave, accidentally travels back to a 1989 Jiangnan town through her late grandmother's old embroidered pillow. Here, her grandmother is an 18-year-old girl with braids, secretly burning her college entrance exam application to care for her terminally ill mother. Zhou Mingyuan—the man her grandmother said “never returned from Shenzhen”—stands at the alley entrance with half a osmanthus cake, hesitating to hand over his confession note. Lin Xiaoman tries to fix her grandmother's regret of “not going to college,” but triggers a chain reaction: Zhou Mingyuan misses the train to Shenzhen waiting for her, and her grandmother passes the exam but misses her mother's last moments.
