You Are the Family I Chose Plot:

Lin Xiaoman, a Beijing drifter, loses both her job and boyfriend, and has no choice but to rent a small room above an old noodle shop in the old town. The landlord is Chen Mo, a quiet chef who just lost his mother. At first, they clash constantly—Xiaoman complains about Chen Mo’s over-salty soup, while Chen Mo hates her fluffy rabbit taking over the sofa. Until one day, when Xiaoman has a fever, Chen Mo makes ginger tea with his mother’s secret recipe; until Chen Mo cries in front of his mother’s old photo, and Xiaoman quietly replaces the shop’s lantern with a new one. When Xiaoman’s mother pressures her to go home for a blind date, Chen Mo stands beside her and says, “Auntie, I’m the family she chose.” When Chen Mo’s noodle shop is facing demolition, Xiaoman holds the contract and shouts, “This is our home.” It turns out the warmest family isn’t a given by blood, but the light I chose with my own hands in the chaos.
