In the late years of the War of Resistance, among the ruins of the Jinpu Railway, Qin Chenchen, a railway technician, held a bombed track and sang an elegy—she had guarded it for three years, determined to get the paralyzed railway running again with the "Hope Train". In the same city, Jin Yiying, a mechanical engineer, crouched in a secret workshop debugging gears—he had been in hiding for half a year, turning the enemy’s "industrial noose" into the "backbone" of his country. When Qin crashed into his workshop with railway parts, they stared at the smoke on each other’s faces and realized they were childhood sweethearts separated by war a decade ago. War gave them no time for warmth: reconnaissance planes roared overhead, Qin’s "Hope Train" had to depart in three days, and Jin’s production line was targeted by spies. In a ruined station at midnight, they wrote their wedding invitation with charcoal: "Our battlefield is to let spring grow from gears." But on the eve of the wedding, Qin received a suicide mission—to cross the enemy blockade with railway parts—and Jin found the production line coordinates had been leaked. Caught between duty and vow, they risked their lives to guard the vitality of the tracks, the spring in the gears, and the unsaid "I’ll wait for you."
