In the misty rain lanes of a Jiangnan ancient town, restorer Lin Xiaoman guards her grandfather’s "Guixu Studio," devoting herself to repairing a damaged painting *Misty Rain and Flying Catkins*—the "unfinished" her grandfather held onto until his last breath. When photographer Gu Zhao bursts into the studio, his camera captures catkins landing on the painting’s scroll, and he blurts out: "I’ve heard the rain in this painting." It turns out Gu Zhao is searching for his missing grandmother’s keepsake, and the grandmother was the one who had a rendezvous with Xiaoman’s grandfather in the misty rain decades ago—war made them miss each other for a lifetime. As catkins stir the rain again, Xiaoman finally completes the missing catkins in the painting, only to find an old photo of Gu Zhao’s grandmother in his camera: she stands among catkins, with a young man who is exactly Xiaoman’s grandfather. At this moment, catkins mixed with rain fall on their shoulders, and they suddenly realize that what they’re repairing is not just a painting, but two regrets spanning time—and their own story has just begun.
