You Promised Amnesty, Why Cry When the Army Comes
You Promised Amnesty, Why Cry When the Army Comes Plot:
Ah Zhu, the female leader of a mountain bandit stronghold, saved General Gu Zhao—who was sent to suppress bandits—three years ago. Gu Zhao promised to secure amnesty for her people to live in peace. But today, dust clouds rose at the foot of the mountain: Gu Zhao’s army surrounded the stronghold! Ah Zhu charged forward with a knife, only to see Gu Zhao on his horse, red-eyed, clutching the braided rope she gave him years ago. “Where’s the amnesty you promised?” she shouted. Gu Zhao suddenly dismounted, pulling out a blood-stained imperial edict: “The emperor wants to destroy the stronghold. I had to bring the army—but I’ve prepared an escape. Come with me, I’ll protect you.” Staring at his trembling hands, Ah Zhu remembered how he’d clung to her sleeve when he was wounded three years ago—his “crying” was never fear, but fear of failing to keep his promise to her.
