Farewell at the Forgotten River Plot:

For a full decade, ferrywoman Ashi has guarded the riverside ferry, waiting for General Gu Yan, who promised her he would return after the war. Ten years passed, duckweeds drifted and faded repeatedly, and all she got were countless passersby with similar looks but total unfamiliarity. Until one day, a man in faded gray military uniform stepped onto the ferry. His features were exactly the ones Ashi had engraved into her soul, yet he bowed politely and smiled: “Miss, please take me across.” Ashi tightened her grip on the oar abruptly—she finally realized: this no-return journey was not only the general’s battlefield path, but also their lives completely separated by the Forgotten River, with no chance of reunion ever again.
