In the 22nd year of the Republic of China, a frigid spring swept through the mountains of western Shanxi. Young opera actress A Yuan fled with her late senior brother’s infant baby and took shelter in a ruined temple to avoid the snow, only to stumble upon Shen Yan, an underground courier hunted by the local security regiment. Initially wary of each other, the two were trapped in the temple by a sudden snowstorm. A Yuan discovered the life-saving medicine Shen Yan hid, while Shen Yan learned the truth behind the baby in her arms. In the faint candlelight of the broken temple, two strangers swept up by the turbulent times survived the cold spring with scarce rations and mutual kindness, and developed an affection transcending their social identities.
